Waddle: Gignac would struggle at Arsenal and Liverpool

French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac has impressed over the past couple of seasons in Ligue 1 and has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

However Waddle, who had a spell with Marseille from 1989 and 1992, does not believe the 28 year-old is good enough to get into the first team of either Arsenal and Liverpool.

The former England winger said: â€śI went out to Marseille and watched him last season, he’s a heavy lad, the manager’s got him fitter than he’s ever probably been.

“Not the most technical, not the most gifted, yes he’s scoring goals at the minute but Marseille are flying.

“Would he get into Arsenal’s team or would he get into Liverpool’s team? If I’m honest, no.”

Gignac’s agent Christopher Hutteau has said that his client has all the right skills to make it as a Premier League forward.

He told L’Equipe: “Given the fact that he is not very old, he has a real market value.

“This is a striker with a relatively atypical profile, responsive to the physical challenge, the archetypal player who can succeed in a big club.

“He can play in England, Arsenal or Liverpool, no problem. For me, it is (his real value) between 12 and 15 million euros.”
