Waddle Says Llorente No Replacement For Kane

Chris Waddle has said that Fernando Llorente is not the right man to replace Harry Kane.

The English striker is out with an injury for at least one month.

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Chris Waddle has said that Fernando Llorente is not the right man to replace Harry Kane in the side’s attack after the Englishman has been ruled out of action for at least one month with an injury he picked up in the Manchester United match. Spurs are also without their other striker Heung Min Son, who is away on national duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

Explaining why the Spaniard can’t step into Kane’s shoes, Waddle said, “Does he suit the way Tottenham play? He’s probably better off at this minute going with Lucas Moura down the middle with Dele Alli behind him, but Kane’s a massive loss.”

He added, “He links the play, he scores the goals, he’s a presence, he occupies defenders, they’re all wary of him because they know how good he is. He only needs half a yard we know how good he is with his finishing ability. He’s an absolute top drawer forward. Listen, when your top striker gets injured — and I had it at clubs I played at — the guy you know is there for the chances, and yes he might miss a few, but you know over the course of the season is going to get you those 20 goals you need. It’s absolutely devastating.”
