Wayne Rooney has reportedly asked Manchester United officials not to appoint Louis Van Gaal as their new manager this summer.

Van Gaal has emerged as the favourite to replace David Moyes this summer to take the hotseat at Old Trafford. But according to reports, Rooney has asked the board to consider someone else, as he is not a fan of the Dutchman’s style and methods.

Rooney, who now has a say in these sort of situations after signing a new contract, believes Van Gaal would overlook him as the next captain of the club and would challenge his authority with the players.

It’s not clear whether or not the board will listen, but since Van Gaal is yet to sign anything it would be easy for the club to look elsewhere.
