Manchester United fear striker could have ligament damage

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could miss the remainder of the season after picking up a heavy knee injury during the side’s 3-0 defeat to Everton.

The England international collided with team-mate Ander Herrera and was left hobbling and limping rather heavily during the closing stages of the match.

The initial feedback from the United medical team is that it could just be a fortnight, but if the striker fails to respond and react to treatment, it could be a further two weeks, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Games He’ll Miss

As it stands, Rooney is likely to miss games against West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace, but if he fails to recover in time, he could also miss games against Arsenal and Hull City.

There is some fear within the club that it my be ligament damage for the captain which would certainly rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Race for Europe

Rooney has been United’s most influential player this season and could be a massive loss for Louis Van Gaal with just four games left to secure their Champions League spot.

However, after Liverpool‘s 1-0 loss to Hull City last night, United are still seven points clear of their fierce-rivals.
