Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged captain Paul Pogba to step up and lead the club to the Premier League title. The club’s highest goalscorer wants Pogba to become United’s talisman.
Rooney said, “Paul is a fantastic player and he has to do it for himself I think. You hear a lot of people saying Jose Mourinho needs to get the best out of him, but for Paul he needs to do it for himself and prove he’s at that level to help Man United. If they’re going to win the title, he’ll be the main player in terms of them doing that, I’m sure.”
Wayne Rooney also said that Mourinho can bring the best out of the Frenchman. He said, “Obviously, surrounding him is a lot of publicity. He’s in the public eye and I’m sure he knows how to deal with that, but he’s one of the best players. If Jose can get the best out of Paul this season, that will be a huge plus for Man United and a step in the right direction in winning the title.”
Rooney also showed his support for Jose Mourinho. He said, “Finishing second last season, although they didn’t win a trophy, I felt it was a good start for them to push for the title. And, you know Mourinho, he knows what he’s doing. He knows how to win titles. I’m sure with the quality of players, he’ll have a game plan to try and help them go that one step further and win the title.”
Manchester United play their next Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.
