Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side are ready to fight for the Premier League title this season after he saw them beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park last night.

The game looked all-but over in the first-half as Arsenal took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud, but the second-half was a completely different story and after Christian Benteke made it 2-1 with 15-minutes left, Wenger’s men were left fighting for the three points.

However, they eventually held on and came away with the victory which has seen them leapfrog both Chelsea and Manchester City, and after the game, Wenger said his boys are ready to fight for the title.

“It is a big win for us,” said Wenger. “The first half was about playing our game with passing and control, the second was more about fighting.”

He added: “Our defenders kept us in the game. It was an anxious finish and we had to fight right to the end and we were committed to every ball.”

“We had to have a strong response because everyone was looking at us to see if we would drop points after everyone else had won over the weekend.

“You are under a bit more pressure when you play last because you know you are not allowed to drop any points.

“The only way you can give an answer to that is to win the games and we have here.”
