We haven’t given up on Salah, says Rodgers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he hasn’t given up in the race for FC Basel star Mohamed Salah, despite the club accepting an £11million bid from Chelsea.

The Egyptian winger has been linked with a move to Anfield since the Summer, and it was eventually reported that the deal was 99% done, however, after Jose Mourinho sold Juan Mata to Manchester United, it was clear that he was in for a midfielder and in a last-ditch attempt to hijack the deal, they made an £11million offer to the Swiss side, which they accepted.

The 21-year-old hasn’t had a medical at Stamford Bridge just yet and nor has he spoken personal terms, so Rodgers is still feeling confident that he can change the players mind.

“The window is not closed yet so we haven’t given up on him, no,” Rodgers told BBC Sport.

“Salah was a player we’re interested in and we hoped we could do a deal but as of yet there is nothing done on it,” he added.

“The club is still looking for players we can bring in to strengthen the squad.

“It is a difficult market in January so we’ll see what happens. If nothing comes in then the players I have have been outstanding for me this season and we’ll enter into the final part of it with confidence if we have the same group of players.”
