Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side proved that they can win games even when they are not at their best, something they couldn’t achieve a few years ago.

Premier League champions Manchester United and well known for winning games despite playing to the best of their ability and Wenger believes that is what his side did on Saturday against Paulo Di Canio’s men.

A brace from Aaron Ramsey and another goal from Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal the three points and despite the two-goal margin, Wenger admitted that his side dug out the victory.

“We have seen another aspect of our game – that is mental resources and [the ability to] dig a victory out,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “It was a very important win for us.

“In the first half I felt that we played outstandingly well but we didn’t take our chances. And then five minutes into the second half it was 1-1 and it was backs to the wall a little bit because we dropped physically.”

Not only did the win put The Gunners top of the Premier League, it was also their seventh successive away victory and the manager puts that down to playing with no fear.

“We play without fear, with confidence, with desire to dictate the game and that’s the main reason. The quality of our collective play is very good, we can keep the ball and that’s very important away from home.”
