Group E Previews

Bayer Leverkusen v BATE Borisov

Leverkusen will be hoping for another successful CL campaign after reaching the knockout stages on each of their last 6 appearances.

The German side have won five out of their last six home games in Europe.

They will be hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Darmstadt at the weekend.

BATE reached the group stage after an away goals win over Partizan in the final qualifying round.

The Belarusian champions will be hoping playmaker Alexander Hleb will be fit after been taken off with 20 minutes left at the weekend.

Roma v Barcelona

Roma will face a huge test of their credentials when the reigning champions come to town in what should be a wonderful match.

The two sides faced off in pre-season, that time Barcelona came away the winners with a 3-0 scoreline, goals from Neymar, Messi and Rakitic that day.

Barcelona are hoping to become the first side to retain the trophy in 26 years.

Lionel Messi is on course to make his 100th Champions League appearance at the Stadio Olimpico.

Dinamo Zagreb v Arsenal

The Gunners will be hoping for that all important top spot which they often fail to get, so maximum points tonight would be a big result.

However, Zagreb won’t be rolling over easily, the Croatian side are unbeaten for the last 11 months, which stretches across 40 games.

Olympiakos v Bayern Munich

Chelsea v Maccabi Tel Aviv

Chelsea hope to use the Champions League to kick-start their season after losing three of their last four Premier League games.

They will also want to improve on their appearance in the CL last season after being dumped out by PSG in the last-16.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv defeated Basel in the final qualifying round to get this far and will be hoping to put a spanner in the works at Stamford Bridge.

Dynamo Kiev v FC Porto

This is Kyiv first CL appearances for three years after winning their first Ukranian Premier League title since 2009 last season.

This will be Porto’s 20th campaign in the CL and they will be starting it without last season’s prolific Jackson Martinez.

They have made an unbeaten start domestically and will be hoping to get off to a good start in Ukraine.

Group H Previews

KAA Gent v Lyon

Gent won their first ever Belgian title last season and this is their first Cl group stage appearance.

Even so, the side will be no pushovers with just one defeat in their last 16.

This is Lyon’s first group stage appearance since 2011-2012.

The French side will be hoping to improve on the weekend’s disappointing draw with Lille.

Valencia v Zenit St Petersburg

Valencia are back in the CL after a two year absence.

They finished fourth in La Liga last season and reached this stage after a 4-3 aggregate win over AS Monaco in qualifying.

Zenit will be hoping to improve on their group stage exit last season.

They currently sit third in the Russian Premier League after a 2-2 draw with CSKA Moscow at the weekend.
