An overview of all Premier League games this weekend

With Capital One Cup fixtures set to be played in the week, all Premier League fixtures this weekend were all played across Saturday and Sunday, here is an overview of all the results.

Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

The weekend began with a bang when Chelsea played Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners had Gabriel sent off in the first half after a spat with Diego Costa, and also lost Santi Cazorla in the second half after two bookable offences. Kurt Zouma gave Chelsea the lead from a setpiece and Eden Hazard sealed the win late on, Chelsea looked stronger and this could be the win to kick-start their season.

Aston Villa 0-1 West Brom

It’s another disappointing result for Tim Sherwood’s side. An overall boring game saw Baggies escape with the points thanks to a clever goal from Saido Berahino. His goal will have put himself back into the good books of Villa fans.

Bournemouth 2-0 Sunderland

Another goal for young Callum Wilson and a showstopper from Matt Richie secured a first home Premier League win ever for newly promoted Bournemouth. Jermain Defoe had chances to bring Sunderland back into the game but failed to deliver, and this loss has left them rooted right at the bottom of the table, while Bournemouth are level on points with Chelsea.

Newcastle 1-2 Watford

Newcastle scored their first goal since the opening day of the season, but that’s the only positive they can take from this poor performance again up against Watford. Watford were 2-0 up within half an hour, and despite a Daryl Jaanmat goal looking like giving Newcastle hope, it wasn’t to be, and they are still inside the bottom three after that result.

Stoke 2-2 Leicester

Leicester were one of the two teams still unbeaten in the league going into Saturday, but found themselves 2-0 down against Stoke at the Britannia after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Bojan and Walters. However, a Riyad Mahraz penalty and a good finish from Jamie Vardy clawed it back for Leicester and they took a point from Stoke to keep themselves unbeaten.

Swansea 0-0 Everton

A boring game in Wales that saw Everton’s Kevin Mirallas sent off very late on for a high tackle. The Blues dominated for most of the game but couldn’t find the breakthrough, they just couldn’t take their chances.

Manchester City 1-2 West Ham

The shock of the weekend. West Ham found themselves 2-0 up with just over half an hour gone, and despite City getting a goal back before half time through new signing Kevin De Bruyne, the Hammers managed to hold on and become the first team ever to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City away in a single Premier League season.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Crystal Palace

Heung-Min Son got the only goal of the game as Spurs got the better of Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace. The South Korean, who got two in Spurs’ 3-1 Europa Leagie win on Thursday, broke the deadlock with 22 minutes to go to make sure all 3 points went to North London.

Southampton 2-3 Manchester United

Despite going a goal down, United’s power and pace proved too much for Southampton as they took 3 points from St. Mary’s. Graziano Pelle had given the Saints an early lead, but two goals from United’s new boy Anthony Martial put the Reds ahead, with Juan Mata adding a third with just over 2o minutes to go. Pelle got another one late on, but it counted for nothing as United won for the second week in a row.

Liverpool 1-1 Norwich

Another frustrating afternoon for fans at Anfield saw Liverpool drop points against Norwich. Danny Ings gave Liverpool the lead early on in the second half, but an error from a corner from Simon Mignolet allowed Norwich to equalise. A whole host of chances missed for Liverpool meant that a draw was the best they could do. Boos greeted the final whistle as more pressure is piled onto Brendan Rodgers.
