Welbeck’s transfer to Arsenal, a “disgrace” according to Dwight Yorke

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has heavily criticised his old club, in letting Danny Welbeck depart to Arsenal.

He has labelled United’s selling price a “disgrace”, considering the money clubs pay for English players, citing Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw as prime examples.

Shaw was bought by United for ÂŁ30 million from Southampton, the most ever paid for a teenage footballer, Lallana for ÂŁ25 million.

Yorke doesn’t understand why Welbeck wasn’t given a loan deal. ‘He had to be [given] a loan deal- especially with Falcao not signing permanently. [Welbeck]’s worth more than ÂŁ16 million in today’s market.’

Welbeck’s Champions League hatrick on Wednesday night showed his quality in front of goal and ability to finish when played through the middle.

At the time, it was a little surprising that United were willing to assist one of their rivals for fourth place, by flogging off the England international.

It all seemed to stem from how late they left the Falcao deal on deadline day, meaning one of the other strikers had to be sacrificed.

Welbeck looks to have hit the ground running and is flourishing with the abundance of creative talent around him.

Time will tell as to whether Louis Van Gaal will live to regret this bit of business.
