We’ll beat the drop, says Hughton

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton believes his side will beat the drop and remain in the Premier League despite their awful start to the new campaign.

The Canaries are currently 16th in the league going into their massive weekend clash at Carrow Road against Crystal Palace, and with just one win in six, there are some anxious Norwich fans about and severe pressure is on the head of Hughton.

Not only are they failing to win games, they are conceding goals left, right and centre, with bottom-placed Sunderland the only team to have conceded more.

However, Hughton is adamant that his side are capable of staying in the league and he backs them to pick up important victories in the weeks ahead.

“There are very difficult days as a manager,” he told The Sun.

“You must be able to cope with those times and try live life on an even keel. You have to take the ups and downs in your stride.

“I honestly don’t think about my job being under threat. Pressure comes with the job. If you can’t take that pressure, you shouldn’t be doing it.”

There has been serious pressure on Hughton this season after he spent a whopping ÂŁ25million on new faces at Carrow Road and so far none of thems have set the league alight, but the former-Newcastle United manager is confident that they will find their feet soon.

“We have spent and we would like to think we have spent well,” he said.

“It does create extra pressure and expectation. For a club of our size, we have spent bigger than we have in any other season.

“Our brief for this season was to improve. We’ve never spoken about a finishing position and certainly not about just survival,” he added.

“We are confident. Of course we would prefer to be in a better position.

“There’s so much football still to be played. But matches at home against teams that are around us are big games.”
