Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he will do the ‘maximum he can’ to keep contract-rebel Theo Walcott at Arsenal.

The England international has been superb in recent weeks for Arsenal helping them see of Reading in the Capital One Cup with a hat-trick and also bagging a goal away at Schalke in their 2-2 draw.

However, the 23-year-old’s contract expires next summer and he is still yet to sign an extension, much to the worry of all Arsenal fans. It is reported that Walcott rejected a new 5-year-deal worth ÂŁ70,000-a-week, which has been met with rumours saying Walcott wants nearer the 100k mark.

Despite these rumours, Theo Walcott has said that money isn’t the objective for him and that he just wants to be given a chance in a central role rather than be a winger.

Today the Arsenal boss revealed that he will do everything he can to keep Theo and reveals his desire to keep him at the club.

“My desire is to keep Theo,” he reiterated. “We do what’s needed to keep him and hopefully [as] I told you many times, we can sort this situation out very soon.

“Very soon is before the end of December – one way or another, that is for sure.

“I don’t want to go into any details but you can believe me [that] we do the maximum we can to keep our best players.”
