Arsene Wenger has been in discussions with Karim Benzema, according to El Confidencial
Reports in Spain also claim the Real Madrid striker is keen on the idea of joining the Gunners.
The Arsenal manager has previously denied any rumours of a deal for the France international saying it’s “not happening at the moment”.
However, reports today suggest Wenger is keen to seal a deal for Benzema as soon as possible and has held talks with the 27-year-old over a possible move to Arsenal.
The North London club are on the lookout for a ‘marquee’ signing and they have identified the former Lyon forward as a key target.
Arsenal chiefs have backed Wenger to make big-money signings like Metsut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the last couple of years.
Now, the French coach has reportedly been given the green light to make a £40million bid for his fellow countryman.
Benzema OUT Reus IN
Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus has been widely linked with an exit from the Bundesliga giants this summer and Real Madrid have emerged as favourites to land the Germany international.
Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez is expected to place his stamp on the squad and the 26-year-old is believed to be on the Spaniards’ summer shopping list.
And, much to the dismay of several Premier League clubs the Dortmund winger has revealed he will only join Real Madrid, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool, who have just sold Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £49million, were set to replace the England international by offering Dortmund £46million for Reus.
However, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach man is desperate for a move to the Bernabeu, despite Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo already occupying the wings.
