The transfer window may be over but Arsene Wenger still plans to work on a couple of deals inside Arsenal.

Arsenal broke their transfer record when they brough in German international, Mesut Ozil on Monday with a fee of £42.5 million. Arsene Wenger and the clubs negotiators now turn to securing the futures of Arsenal’s excisting squad.

Both defenders Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna are expected to be the first in line for new deals alongsie Tomas Rosicky whose contract expires at the end of this year. Mertesacker has under two years left on his contrct and Wenger wants to keep him at the club for a longer period of time, he currently earns £80,000 a week and is expecte a marginal wage increase in the next offer.

Sagna could be more difficult to deal with, his contract ends next summer and has been involved in a long running jostle with the club of  contract, Sagna was offered a 12 month extension without payrise last year which angered him, he nearly left the club but stayed after discussions with Wenger.

Abou Diaby is back on the road to recovery after he returned to the club’s London Colney HQ to step up his recovery from his serious knee injury. He had surgery on a cruciate ligament injury in March and has spent most of his rehabilitation time back in his homeland of France. Diaby is happy to be back in London now though.

‘Emotionally it wasn’t good because you think in a bad way but I had the support of my friends, family and the people at the club and that gave me a lot of hope,’ he said.

‘I’m working back to my best level and beyond. I want to catch the train and bring something to the team. That’s my objective.’
