Rafael Benitez reckons that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is the best manager in the Barclays Premier League, and the Spaniard rates the Arsenal boss higher than his Chelsea successor Jose Mourinho.

The newly appointed Napoli manager spent eight months at Chelsea last season, taking the role as an interim manager, following the sacking of previous manager Roberto Di Matteo, as Benitez guided the Stamford Bridge side to a Europa League title.

Despite failing to lift a trophy since the FA Cup triumph in 2005 or win the Premier League since 2004, Benitez believes Wenger is the best.

Benitez, who is preparing is Napoli side for a winner takes all clash at the Stadio San Paulo against Arsenal tomorrow night stated his admiration for the long serving Gunners boss.

He said: ‘For me Wenger is the best coach in the Premier League and knows what his team must do.

‘In modern football everyone knows the quality of their rivals. Arsenal is a very strong side.

‘This could be the year they win the Premier League. Arsenal will try to control possession and hit us with counter attacks. We have to do our thing, focus on ourselves and not on them.’

Arsenal will qualify for the second round draw – which takes place on Monday in Nyon, Switzerland – if they avoid a heavy defeat here in Naples.

Napoli are currently third in Serie A, after a very promising start to the season under Benitez, who has drafted in Gonzalo Higuian and Pepr Reina in the summer to boost his squad after the sale of Edinson Cavani, and the former Liverpool manager believes the Gunners can go places in the Premier League, and in the Champions League, with Benitez expecting Arsenal to qualify in Naples.

Benitez went on to say in his interview…..

We have nothing to lose. For us to play at home gives us an added strength.

‘We were unlucky to be placed in such a difficult group but for me, it’s better to experience these games rather than watch them on TV.’

Benitez will be hoping to recover Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who missed Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Udinese with a muscular injury.

Benitez believes that his side will attack the Arsenal defence from the off, and with players such as Gonzalo Higuian, Goran Pandev, and Meterns, the Arsenal defence will have to be on their guard.
