Wenger plans £12 million raid to replace Szczesny

Arsenal have averted their gaze from Málaga, and Guillermo Ochoa, to the shores of Italy in their pursuit for a replacement for the inconsistent Wojciech Szczesny after their pursuit of the Mexican ‘keeper stalled.

Genoa’s Mattia Perin has been given the unenviable tag of the ‘next Gigi Buffon,’ is thought to be valued at £12 million by his current club, and would provide competition for Szczesny and David Ospina.

Szczesny was dropped for the match against Stoke following a row over smoking in the showers and his poor form, only to be replaced by David Ospina whom is clearly not impressing Wenger.

Perin earned his first Italy cap last year, and now plays second fiddle to Buffon himself, providing invaluable experience. Wenger will be hoping the 22-year-old custodian will provide the answer to a question he has been asked since the departure of Jens Lehmann in 2008.
