Mathieu Flamini has been told he can leave Arsenal this summer, according to reports

Flamini has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements, despite having a year left on his contract, according to Goal.com.

The 34-year old has had two spells at The Gunners, either side of five years at AC Milan but now the Frenchman looks set to leave Arsenal once again.

Galatasaray have continued to be linked with the defensive midfielder with Lukas Podolski making the same move earlier this summer.

Flamini did make a good start when arriving from the San Siro but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by of late despite Abou Diaby’s move to Marseille.

Should he leave the Emirates, he has reportedly asked Arsenal to pay him a share of what he earns in his final year to cover any loss of wages.

Benzema fee too high

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to North London all summer but the Gunners will not pay over the odds for the France international.

Speculation has grown over the past couple of weeks as Wenger looks to add a marquee signing to his squad, like the addition of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last July.

Benzema, 27, scored 15 goals in 29 games last season, and is set to cost around ÂŁ45million but Wenger has insisted they will not panic buy.

A move for the former Lyon striker would break the current transfer record at Arsenal – Mesut Ozil cost the Gunners £42.4million back in September 2013.
