We’re not good enough, admits Wayne Rooney

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that they were not good enough on Sunday during their derby-day thrashing at the hands of Manchester City.

Sergio Aguero gave the hosts the lead in the first-half before Yaya Toure doubled their advantage and gave them a comfortable cushion going in the interval.

Another goal from Aguero made it three, before Samir Nasri rounded off the performance with a neatly-taken volley, but it was Rooney who had the last say of the game when he converted a free-kick to make the scoreline less humiliating.

Talking to MUTV, the Englishman admitted that they were not good enough and his goal meant nothing to him as they had lost the game.

‘It is not good enough,’ the 27-year-old told MUTV. ‘We know we have to improve and stop giving these sloppy goals away.

‘It is not nice to lose to City. It was a bad result and we are all extremely disappointed.’

‘It is nice to score but it means nothing,’ he said. ‘The most important thing was the points and we have come away with none.’
