West Brom pull out of contract talks. LIVERPOOL and ARSENAL on high alert!

Liverpool are desperate for more attacking options. That fact is clear. So, the news that one of the many stars of the future they are following, may be available sooner rather than later, will come as good news to the money men at Anfield.

21-year-old Saido Berahino has come to the attention of England’s top clubs this year. The West Bromwich Albion striker has enhanced his reputation on the field with some stunning displays this term, and it can only be a matter of time before one of the big boys snap him up. Liverpool and Arsenal seem the keenest to sign him, but also Manchester United and Tottenham have shown interest.

The Baggies’ have been trying to secure an extension to his current deal, offering a bumper package, but recent reports suggest West Brom chief, Jeremy Peace has given up and scrapped all further talks.

Berahino has been with the Baggies since Under-12s level after escaping war-torn African nation Burundi with his mother, brother and sisters. They were granted political asylum, and he became the first player to be signed by the Baggies’ Centre of Excellence from kids football team Phoenix United. He has since qualified to represent England, and the forward has shot up the England ranks. In July 2011 he represented them at the Under-20s World Cup in Colombia.

Berahino was recently selected for the senior England squad for the first time, but ended up not being required by manager Roy Hodgson. The experience would have been invaluable to the youngster none the less.

Despite being rated as a star of the future, Berahino has had his troubles off the field, and potential employers will be aware that he is not as squeaky-clean as some might like. A recent drink-driving charge has coincided with an alarming dip in form, suggesting that all may not be perfect in the youngster’s head.

I can see the headlines….’Liverpool to sign controversial striker’….surely not? Not Liverpool.
