Responding to reports suggesting Nicolas Anelka has walked out on West Bromwich Albion and told the club he wants to retire from the game, the club have made the following statement on their official website.

“West Bromwich Albion can confirm that Nicolas Anelka will not be involved in Saturday’s game at Everton. The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds.”

News broke earlier today that the striker, who signed for The Baggies in the summer, had left the training ground and told the club his plans of retiring from the game.

The 34-year-old has apparently suffered a personal loss and was hoping to sort out a solution with West Brom, but nothing could be agreed on and it is believed that is why he walked out on the club.
