Striker won’t be going anywhere

West Ham are set to look elsewhere for a new striker after giving up their pursuit of Jermain Defoe.

According to The Telegraph, the Hammers have now had 2 bids rejected and have been told by persistently Sunderland that Defoe will not be leaving the club this January.

West Ham have also been linked with Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, but it’s believed there is no move for him on the cards either.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan told Telegraph Sport: “We have not bid for this player and he’s not a target of ours.”

They have made it common knowledge that they are out to sign a striker this month, having also made a bid for Championship side Brentford’s top scorer Scott Hogan, who is doing the job for the Bees in the 2nd division. Their ÂŁ10million bid however was also rejected.

Another target could be Southampton’s Shane Long, with Slaven Bilic desperate to add a Premier League-proven forward to his squad.
