Hammers ready to smash club’s transfer record

West Ham United are ready to break their current transfer record in order to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.

The Belgian has struggled to settle at Anfield after making his ÂŁ32.4million move from Aston Villa in the summer, and he’s already being linked with a move away from the club.

Although both Benteke and his agent have confirmed his plans are to stay at Liverpool past the summer, West Ham could launch a formal bid for the striker which could tempt Jurgen Klopp to sell.

Klopp has often opted to bench Benteke, despite the lack of fit strikers at the club, and use Roberto Firmino as a false number-nine, leaving the 25-year-old frustrated on the sidelines.

However, Benteke did make an impact over the weekend as he scored a last minute winner against Crystal Palace, and people believe that could be enough to kick-start his Anfield career.

Record Breaking Bid

According to reports, West Ham are continuing to monitor Benteke’s situation in Merseyside and could possibly launch a bid worth around ÂŁ20m, which would break the club’s transfer record.

West Ham have signed Liverpool strikers in the past, with Andy Carroll recently completing a transfer to Upton Park.

The same reports have suggested that should they fail in their pursuit of Benteke, they will turn their attentions to Manchester City outcast Wilfried Bony.
