A contract for Graham Potter to take over as Sweden’s new head coach is being finalised. After losing to Kosovo 1-0 and failing to guarantee automatic qualification for the World Cup next summer, Sweden fired Jon Dahl Tomasson on October 14. In the history of the national team, he became the first manager of Sweden to be fired.
Potter later stated that he was open to the position, having managed Östersund from 2011 to 2018 and lived in Sweden for seven years. “I love Swedish football and I love the country,” he said to Fotbollskanalen. I’m in a great financial situation.
Financial considerations are no longer a factor in my decision to accept a job offer. After eight months in command, Potter won just six games before being fired by West Ham on September 27. He had assumed leadership of the team in the middle of the 2024–25 campaign.
