West Ham United made a series of expensive additions prior to the 2018/19 season but Manuel Pellegrini is looking to further bolster the club ranks with Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey.
With Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez struggling to maintain match fitness, the Chilean boss has found it somewhat difficult to rotate his squad through a hectic Premier League schedule.
However, the man did manage to work around the obstacles and push West Ham back up into the top ten of the Premier League.
Adding the likes of Shelvey will no doubt, offer Pellegrini a different dynamic to work with especially with Manuel Lanzini currently out injured as well. The Irons have handed a veteran attacking midfielder in Samuel Nasri into the mix.
Shelvey is a midfield general who commands the Magpies attacks from deep central positions. At 26, he is in the very prime of his career and is valued at £20m by Rafael Benitez’s camp.
With the inflow of heavy funds from the owners, Pellegrini is ready to match Newcastle’s asking price. Benitez is expected to be highly reluctant in letting his star man go but might not have much choice once the Hammers roll into the St James’ Park with their Brinks truck.
