West Ham United have taken towards Inter Milan’s Gabriel Barbosa since losing Andriy Yarmolenko to an Achilles tear earlier in the season.
While Manuel Pellegrini has worked his way around the crisis to secure a 4-game winning streak of late, the Hammers will have to look into immediate replacements for the Ukranian.
As per latest reports, United have placed a concrete offer for Barbosa and are also in contact with his agent, Kia Joorabchian. Crystal Palace and Everton are also keeping tabs on the 22-year-old Brazilian.
Barbosa signed with Inter in the summer of 2016 but struggled to establish in the first team. Since then, he has spent a season with Benfica and the last with his boyhood club, Santos.
The attacker finished the 2017/18 campaign with 20 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions. His contract with the Nerazzurri is set to last till the summer of 2021 but his chances of breaking into Luciano Spaletti’s squad is slim due to the presence of Mauro Icardi.
Gabriel is naturally left-footed and likes to operate as a striker. However, he does have the skill and athleticism to operate from wide areas.
He could add a different dynamic into the Hammers side and offer Pellegrini more options to work with. His inability to prove himself in the European stage should be a concern.
