Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta believes the side sent out a big statement on Saturday afternoon when they beat Cardiff City 3-0 in Wales.

The Gunners went into the game top of the table and in superb form, but they knew that the Welsh side were not going to be beaten easily, especially after they picked up four points out of their two home games against Manchester City and Manchester United.

However, a brace from man-of-the-moment Aaron Ramsey either side of a Mathieu Flamini goal gave Arsene Wenger’s men a comfortable victory.

Arteta, who is enjoying a spell of captaincy due to Thomas Vermaelen not playing, believes the side sent out a big statement by defeating Cardiff in their own backyard.

“Every away game in the Premier League is very tough,” Arteta told Arsenal Player. “Considering they beat Man City here and they drew against Man United, just shows you what a tough place this is.

“For us it’s a big statement to come here and get the points, to score three goals away from home is very important. We got another clean sheet as well so we’re full of confidence.

“I think we looked really solid again, we kept another clean sheet which is very important for us because up front we know we have the ability to score. It’s a great three points – we are delighted.”
