Several clubs set to battle it out for his signature

Manchester United have become the front runners for Edinson Cavani after the striker’s recent wage demands.

The Paris Saint-Germain man has admitted he wants a ÂŁ5.75 million-a-year salary if he leaves the Ligue 1 champions in this summer transfer window.

Serie A champions Juventus had recently become the hot favourites to sign Cavani, with claims by the Italian media suggesting that it was already a done deal.

However, the forward’s recent wage demands have swung the pendulum towards Manchester United, as Juventus simply can’t afford to give Cavani that kind of money.

United boss Louis van Gaal knows that the Premier League giants can afford to give the Uruguay international this kind of contract. This is because loanee flop Radamel Falcao will be freeing up his ÂŁ265,000-a-week contract when he returns to his parent club Monaco at the end of the current campaign.

‘You never know what will happen in football’

Cavani’s future at PSG was brought into speculation after he gave a recent interview with GQ Magazine.

When speaking to GQ, he said: “I don’t know whether I will stay at PSG. I might stay, I might leave. You never know what will happen in football.”

He also added: “When I arrived at PSG, I was forced to play on the wing. I want to play as a striker. I would without a doubt do much better in my own position.”

One promise the 26-year old will receive from both Juventus and Manchester United is that he will play through the middle as a striker. He has often played out wide in a front three for PSG.

Cavani has scored 25 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions for both club and country so far in this competitive season.
