Why Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the modern era

Pep Guardiola will be taking charge of Manchester City tonight versus Liverpool. The Spanish manager started his stint as a coach for Barcelona B.

He was relatively famous back then. However, that was as a player. Once he took over as manager, it took him all of one year for people at the club to notice that they had a special talent on their hands.

Pep was given the reins of the first team. He picked the likes of Sergio Busqets, Gerard Pique, Iniesta, Xavi over the famous stars like Deco and Ronaldinho. It saw a revolution in Barcelona and the beginning of Pep’s keep the ball style of play, otherwise known as Tiki-Taka.

Over the next four years, teams simply sat back and saw in awe as Pep’s team, won several trophies year after year. By 2012, Pep had won it all and moved to Bayern. At a new club in a new country, he won the league all three times and came close to conquering Europe. A year’s sabbatical followed.

In 2016, he was announced as the boss of Manchester City. The big challenge had arrived. With City, he won nothing in the first season but by the second season, he was in and broke the record tally. He repeated the feat a third time.

Now in his fourth season, he is being challenged by Klopp but Pep remains at the top regardless of who the opposition is. He is always in and around that top spot. A true champion.
