Wilshere: No injury concerns

Jack Wilshere calmed injury fears last night after helping England get past Denmark, but Wayne Rooney still thinks there’s a lot of work to be done. Arsenal midfielder Wilshere was caught on the top of the foot in a nasty looking challenge at Wembley last night, and needed treatment to sooth his discomfort. The sight sparked fears that he could be set for an untimely period on the sidelines as the countdown to the World Cup intensifies. Wilshere, however, was able to carry on and played down the problem after the game, making it through the best part of an hour in The Three Lion’s 1-0 win.

He told SkySports, “I’m fine. It’s a bit sore and there’s a bit of a bruise. I’ve had a scan already and there’s nothing there but a bruise, so I’ll be fine.”

On England’s performance in their final game before manager Roy Hodgson makes his squad selection for Rio, Wilshere added, “I think it went well. It was tough in the first half, we kept trying and they defended well. We created some chances and their keeper was really good tonight.”

“We kept going and got the goal in the end. When it comes to the World Cup, those crucial goals at the end of games are going to make a big difference.”

Rooney will be hoping to be the cutting edge for England in the summer, but the Manchester United forward has conceded that Roy Hodgson has some difficult choices to make when picking his squad,

“It’s the last squad before the manager names the 23-man squad for the summer, there were 29 of us tonight and we were all here to show him what we can do, and I’m sure the manager has a few things to think about now.”

“I’m pleased for Studds [Sturridge] tonight because it was important goal for him and he took it really well.”
