Talks are understood to have taken place on Friday night

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in taking Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on a season-long loan.

The Championship outfit have joined West Bromwich Albion and Burnley in the race for the 19-year-old’s signature, with Wolves’ technical director Andrea Butti at Old Trafford on Friday night to undergo talks with Jose Mourinho.

Both Butti and Mourinho have previously worked together at Inter Milan, and the Wolves’ chief opened talks with the United boss following Friday night’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old has a long-term future at Old Trafford, as previously confirmed by Mourinho, and signed a contract extension in May, formalising the club’s plans to keep a hold of the player.

However, Mourinho is willing to let the United academy graduate go out on loan and gain some valuable first-team experience, although, with two Premier League clubs interested, it remains to be seen whether the Midlands club can beat off their competition.

Borthwick-Jackson’s versatility at being able to play either as a left-back or centre-back is a key reason why Wolves boss Walter Zenga wants to bring the Red Devils youngster in.

But the defender could opt to reject a move to the Championship club, in favour of gaining top flight experience with either Burnley or West Brom.
