Hodgson took over the role from Fabio Capello in 2012, whilst he was manager of West Bromwich Albion, and guided England to the quarter finals of the European Championships that summer.

Dyke added that Hodgson will remain as the England boss until the conclusion of the 2016 European Championships in France.

He added: “There are a lot of young players who got blooded here and got into tournament football.”

The Championships in France will feature a new 24 team format.
