The approaches have come from agents and it is claimed the Catalan hero is after a final big move at the age of 34.

It is a time of transition at Barca, who have had a poor season by their own very high standards.

Manchester City who clinched the Premier League title today – are one of the clubs to have been sounded out.

It has previously been suggested the playmaker could end his career at the Blues’ new American club New York City.

Etihad Stadium top brass Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain know the star well from their time at Barcelona.

But with Xavi thought to be after a ÂŁ150k-a-week deal, City may not be interested, especially when they are facing a stinging UEFA fine of ÂŁ50million for breaching its Financial Fair Play regulations.

Xavi – under contract at Barca for another two seasons – is also believed to be an admirer of Arsenal, while Manchester United are also in the market for midfield players.

City, meanwhile, also have the pressing problem of finding eight home-grown players for their squad next season.

With that in mind they will recall Karim Rekik, 19, from his loan at PSV Eindhoven, are discussing a new deal with Dedryck Boyata and could also keep Micah Richards for the final 12 months of his contract.
