New signing unhappy with start at Emirates

Granit Xhaka has said that he did NOT join Arsenal to sit on the bench.

The midfielder arrived this summer from Borussia Mochengladbach for ÂŁ33million. He didn’t start on the opening weekend against Liverpool, but has started both league fixtures since.

And despite the competition for places in midfield, Xhaka is determined to be one of the first names on Arsene Wenger’s team sheet.

“I have not come to Arsenal to sit on the bench or even in the grandstand,” he told Swiss newsoutlet Berner Oberlander.

“But I’m not 30, I’ll be 24 at the end of September.

“I’ve moved to a club and a coach that can develop me.

“I think at Arsenal I can improve my speed and power. Because I realise now that I’m not at a hundred per cent of what is possible there. [Understanding] this too is an advancement.”
