Xhaka says Emery is improving him

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has praised Unai Emery and said that the Spaniard is improving him as a player. Xhaka has played a key role in Arsenal’s improvement in the Premier League after losing their opening two matches. Following defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, the Gunners have won all matches that have followed. They are currently on a 9-match winning streak that includes winning 6 Premier League matches in a row.

The Swiss midfielder is a regular under Unai Emery and has started in all of their 8 Premier League matches so far. Xhaka scored a goal against Newcastle and provided an assist against Cardiff City.

Even though Arsenal haven’t faced a top quality team since their opening two league defeats, their results are fairly convincing given the fact that Emery succeeded Arsene Wenger who was Arsenal’s manager for more than two decades and his playing style is very contradictory to that of Wenger’s.

Xhaka has said that Unai Emery has contributed a lot to improving his game. He said, “We needed some time to get to know the character and philosophy of the new manager. It is going well and I am improving. On a tactical level, the manager has really helped me. But we can still improve.”

Xhaka is currently captaining Switzerland in the international break. Following a defeat to Belgium in a Nations League fixture, Switzerland take on Iceland in Reykjavik tomorrow. This will be Switzerland’s return leg against Iceland, thrashing them 6-0 in the home leg.

Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 18 points and play their next match against Leicester City next Monday.
