Midfielder wants a new contract

Yaya Toure has not given up on his Manchester City career and wants to fight for a new contract and a place under Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has brutally dropped the Ivorian from his group-stage Champions League 21-man squad that was recently announced.

And earlier this week his outspoken agent, Dimitri Seluk, had claimed that he would seek a pre-contract agreement in January that would allow his client to leave the Etihad following the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.

Seluk on Tuesday told Sky Sports there had been interest from Manchester United and Arsenal for Toure but said a move to either of those clubs would be ‘impossible’.

However, The Mail understands that, despite his agent’s comments, the player himself has not given up on making the most of what is left of his time at City.

Toure has vowed to do everything in his powers to convince Guardiola, who sold him to City from Barcelona for £24m in 2010, that he can make an impact in the first team.
