Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto is hoping to grind out positives from his first Premier League start against Manchester United.

Muto came off the bench in his previous six games in the top flight but couldn’t make it count but Benitez’s decision to unleash him from the start against the mighty Red Devils paid dividends.

The Magpies had a scratchy start to the match but Kenedy opened the scoring to stun the Old Trafford crowd. Muto then had a moment of brilliance in the opposition box as he made it 2-0 to lift the mood in the Newcastle dugout.

But a second half storm from the home side dashed all the hopes of Rafa Benitez as they lost the match 3-2 to remain winless after eight matches.

Muto believes the goal against United was first of many. “I was simply glad to score.

“Scoring a goal is the best pleasure for a centre-forward.

“I hope that goal has made my position stronger.”

“I should have scored another goal with a chance like that.

“That was the worst possible result for us.

“But we have to stay focused on the future.

“I would like to build my future from the goal at Man United.”
