Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has piled the pressure onto Manchester City by questioning whether or not they can do what’s required and win their final two games.

Two wins from the next two for City would almost certainly crown them champions, assuming Liverpool don’t also win their games with high scorelines. Aston Villa and West Ham are the two teams that await City, who put themselves back on top of the league with a 3-2 win at Everton on Saturday.

“It is a tough ask for City. No matter how it works, at this stage of the season to play three games that really, really matter is a real, real tough ask,” Rodgers said.

“City need to win all their games which means they will have won five games in a row; they have done that just once this season in the league.

“It will be a wee bit new for them as well. It is certainly not over by a long way.”

Liverpool themselves have a tough game ahead against Tony Pulis’ Crystal Palace, who despite being safe, will want to end their home season on a positive note after an astonishing revival under the ex-Stoke boss.

Every team in this league is a very tough game, home or away,” the Reds boss said.

“I have been in this division a few seasons now and it is a very tough league.

“They have had some really good results at home. They will defend deep and play in a low block, the back four will be tight with the two wingers dropping in to make a six and the midfield three will be dropped in.

“They will look to break on the counter-attack and to stop us playing so we know it will be a difficult game, but that is our job to find that creativity and stay patient and make the breakthrough.

“Tony Pulis has done an outstanding job. Having come up with a team from the Championship I know first hand how difficult the job is.

“He has really galvanised the team. I watched them recently at Everton and they defended really well and have players on the counter-attack who can punish you.

“They have a real spirit amongst them, and keeping them in the league is a great effort.”
