Zinedine Zidane does not regret the decision to start Mateo Kovacic ahead of Isco.

Madrid lost 3-0 to Barcelona yesterday afternoon and Zidane did not feel that he should have started Icso.

Barcelona have now opened a  14-point lead over rivals Real Madrid with the win yesterday. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Aleix Vidal scored the goals on the 2nd half.

While speaking to the media Zidane explained that he chose Kovacic to limit Messi’s influence on the match.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Zidane said, “I have to make decisions. The idea was to keep an eye on Messi and Mateo did well. We made a decision and that’s it. I am making decisions as a coach. The decisions was Kovacic on the pitch and Isco on the bench at the start. Then, because of how the match went, I was not able to use Isco.

“I had to use Nacho (Fernandez) because of the red card and had two chances left with one player less. That changes the games.

“I will not regret anything. If you score in the 1st half of the match is different. I know I will take the criticism, but that’s football, and it will not change how I think.  I make these decisions and I accept what happens.”

Talking about the title race being over, the Frenchman said, “People might think that the league is over, but I do not and neither does Ernesto Valverde. We will keep doing our work because it has not been a bad year.”
