Zinedine Zidane was not happy with how Real Madrid dropped points against Celta Vigo last year.
Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos gave the Galacticos the lead after conceding early in the game but Santi Mina equalized just minutes before the end whistle.
Zidane said after the game, “When you drop two points at home you’ll always be disappointed. It’s a real blow because we put in a tremendous effort in the second half and they levelled it up with five minutes to go. They got a goal inside six minutes, then they camped in their own half and we struggled to find gaps in the first half because we played too much through the middle. We were much better in the second half and played with more pace”.
“We’re still first and that means a lot. We’re bound to drop points, this is football. We know it’s decided on small details and we have to improve and remain focused until the end because they can cause you problems with a single play. We’re at the top and we have to keep going, we will all keep fighting, this is a long-run thing.
He continued, “The games we’ve got coming up are tough and we have to keep our concentration. The first goal came from a mistake. We could say the same of the second, but you have to say it was a spectacular pass by Denis Suárez. This is football. We came up against some good players and they scored two goals. We’ve always played with a 4-3-3. I don’t think it’s weakened us defensively. In the first play we weren’t set up well. These are details and it can happen”.
When asked about Eden Hazard’s comeback performance after his long injury layoff, Zidane said, “I’m happy with Hazard’s comeback and the 70 minutes he’s given us. We know what a player he is and what he can give us. After three months out, it’s not easy to perform like he did today”.
