Arsenal a step closer to landing PSG star

0

Arsenal’s persuit of PSG star Adrien Rabiot has picked up hope after the Frenchman’s wage demands for his new contract were turned down by the French champions.

The midfielder has just one year left on his current contract in Paris, and is able to discuss possible moves with new clubs in Januuary.

PSG and the Frenchman have been struggling to agree terms for some time, amid growing interested from both Arsenal and Roma.

And now, according to Sport Mediaset, the French champions have rejected Rabiot’s demands after he asked for a £4million-a-year salary.

The news will come as a boost to both Arsene Wenger’s men and the Italian giants, who contacted the teenager’s representatives about a move in the summer.

It is now expected that Rabiot will leave PSG on a free next summer, when his contract with the Ligue 1 side expires

Chelsea in shock Messi swoop this summer

0

Chelsea made a sensational bid to sign Barcelona megastar Lionel Messi in this summer’s transfer period, according to reports in Catalonia.

In what would have been the most talked-about move in years, the Blues submitted the cheeky bid for Messi due to his strained relations with the Barcelona board following last season’s frustrating campaign which saw some of the club’s fans criticise him for below-part performances.

Catalan channel TV3 aired a programme called Efectivament revealing that Jose Mourinho wanted to exploit Messi’s then uncertain situation and persuaded owner Roman Abramovich to make an offer to the Catalan club.

However, neither the Barcelona board, or Messi himself were interested in the deal, and it never matelialised.

This follows reports earlier this summer that Arsenal were also considering a move for Messi, the cover star of Fifa 15.

Spanish website Vozpopuli believed Messi spoke to then team-mate Cesc Fabregas about a move to the Gunners after becoming disillusioned with life at Camp Nou.

However, the four-time Ballon d’Or winner’s buy-out clause and wages ensured he was out of Arsene Wenger’s reach.

Messi has signed a new deal at the Nou Camp, with an increase in wages.

Robin Van Persie reveals emergency meeting

0

Manchester United players were involved in a emergency meeting after their 5-3 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted, Leicester City.

Red Devils striker, Robin Van Persie, revealed in a recent interview that the players got together before training the next day after their shock collapse and discussed what went wrong and where they should go in the future.

United were 3-1 up at The King Power Stadium, but a second-half collapse saw them concede four goals in quick succession and left them deflated and down to 10-men.

The next morning at training, Van Persie has admitted that a hear-felt meeting was organised and the players discussed everything that went wrong.

Van Persie said: “It’s the right way forward as you have to speak about the good things you do but also in the areas you can improve, which is what we did the next day.

“Everyone came in and we had a long meeting about the game. It was a really good meeting as everyone spoke up and shared their feelings.

“We’ve had a good few sessions now and everyone’s feeling very positive now ahead of the game against West Ham.

“Everyone’s on the same page.”

Pep Guardiola plans audacious move for Mesut Ozil

0

Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is set to table a bid for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to the London Evening Standard.

Ozil has endured a tough time at Arsenal of late, having signed in a club record fee of £42 million in the summer  deadline day of 2013, from Real Madrid.

He has also been played out of position in recent weeks, with Arsene Wenger preferring to play Ozil out on the wing, rather than in the favoured forward role, due to the signing of Alexis Sanchez.

Despite the sticky patch the German had lived with, he scored and assisted one of each during Arsenal’s recent 3-0 win away at Aston Villa last Saturday.

And with the World Cup winner coming back into some form, this appears to have alerted Guardiola, who is set to keep tabs on the former Real Madrid man.

The Bayern Munich boss is keen to strengthen his all powering Bundesliga squad even more, and views Ozil as a possible recruit at the Allianz Arena.

And the London Evening Standard believe that Arsenal may consider selling him, should his performances not improve on a regular basis.

Following the win at Villa, the German hit out at his critics, by stating: “I don’t play to prove anything to anybody, I play for Arsenal. I have the feeling that I am criticised more than other players.

“That happened to me in the Bundesliga and also at Real Madrid.

“We have only just started the season, we have new players in key positions. Our collective game can’t just work well from one day to the next.

“Ten weeks ago I was named in the English team of the season [via an internet poll on the Premier League website]. I was world champion then. But after a few games everything is called into question again. It is strange but I know what I can offer.”

‘We must improve’, says Mourinho

0

Premier League leaders, Chelsea, need to improve in every aspect, according to manager, Jose Mourinho.

The Blues are still unbeaten in the league and have only dropped points in one game, away at Manchester City, but according to their manager, improvements need to be made all over the field.

Mourinho’s side are tipped to win this year’s Premier League, and could also be dark horses for the Champions League as well, and the Portuguese admits that if they are to win titles this season, they will need to up their game.

“It is not just defensively, it is in every aspect,” he said.

“We have to continue to improve in every aspect.”

Mourinho slams Pellegrini in war of words

0

Chelsea mananger Jose Mourinho has hit out at his Manchester City counterpart Manuel Pellegrini, in a war of words between the pair.

The duo have been embroiled in a rather heated war of words, as Pellegrini labelled Chelsea a ‘small team’ following the 1-1 draw between the two sides at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday.

And Mourinho has hit back in typical Mourinho fashion, in a pre match press conference before tomorrow’s Premier League fixture at home to Aston Villa.

“It is not once but two or three times that he has told everyone he doesn’t speak about referees: yet he killed Mark Clattenburg.”

Mourinho added: “Then three or four times he says he doesn’t speak about me or my teams: and he has done it once more. It’s for others to assess this.

“When I say I don’t want to speak about him, that’s what I try to do.”

Reus wants to leave Dortmund

0

Marco Reus wants to leave Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, the Daily Express have reported.

The 25 year old has stalled over any improved new contract at Dortmund, and could in-fact leave as early as the January window.

Reus’ current deal runs until the summer of 2016, however his release clause in his current deal is set to drop to £20 million, alerting several top Europan clubs.

Repots in Germany suggest that Real Madrid have already entered talks with the want-away forward, with the Spanish La Liga side set to fae competition from the Premier League.

Indeed, Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid are all plotting moves for Reus in the coming months.

Ronaldo in stunning £140m package deal?

0

Real Madrid have told Manchester United what they need to do to prise Christiano Ronaldo away from the Spanish giants.

With the news that Ronaldo’s agent wants the deal to go ahead, United have made Ronaldo their number one priority ahead of the January transfer window.

£140million. That’s what’s needed. A transfer fee of £60million, plus wages of around £80million over the course of the contract.

This equates to approximately £400k a week for the enigmatic Portuguese star, which is astonishingly a rather significant pay cut! Ronaldo currently earns approximately £694k a week before tax (although Real do pay his 52% tax leaving him £315k a week.)

Real appear ready to cash in on a move that will also alert Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and many other of the European elite clubs.

29-year-old Ronaldo is not saying much about a potential move, but the sight of him once again gracing the Old Trafford turf has the red side of Manchester licking their lips.

With Real recently admitting the club is £400million in debt, the sale of Ronaldo would make financial sense as he enters into his thirties.

Last Friday, under pressure United manager, Louis van Gaal admitted he would be interested in buying Ronaldo.

Premier league defenders – look out. The double Fifa World Player of the Year may be soon coming to a town near you.

Frank Lampard reveals how City move happened

0

Manchester City midfielder, Frank Lampard, has admitted that he was surprised to hear about the news regarding a loan-move back to the Premier League after he had left Chelsea.

The veteran’s contract expired at Stamford Bridge and after they decided not to renew it, the Englishman left the club, ending his incredible career in West London, and agreed to join new MLS side, New York City.

However, with the club not in competitive action until next year, it left Lampard with nothing to do football-wise for several months, and that sparked the interest of Man City, who own the New York-based club.

City then got in contact with Lampard and offered him the chance to join them on loan for a few months, before going back to American to play for his new side, and the Englishman admitted that the offer took him by surprise.

“It’s a funny one for me because my intentions were to have a longer holiday and then train maybe on my own with a fitness coach,” said Lampard.

“I was in pure holiday mode when I got the call to come back here. I’ve had a really good pre-season now. Considering I wasn’t involved in the first few games, that’s been extra training time for me.

“I feel good and I’m just actually really enjoying training and playing. The lads are great, the people behind the scenes have welcomed me, the staff, the manager, Brian Kidd. It’s been an easy transition.”

Lampard then continued to discuss how weird it is playing in England, but not for Chelsea, however, he admitted that it’s a good thing for him to be out of his comfort zone.

“It’s very different,” he added. “I was at Chelsea such a long time that you just go on auto-pilot in the end. You drive in every day, you know everybody behind the scenes.

“It was a tester for me to be honest. I didn’t have to make this decision. But it was a very good opportunity for me to play at this level and train at this level, and it’s a personal test to come up to Manchester.

“I was in very much of a comfort zone at Chelsea. It’s good to test yourself in life.

“All I can say is I am enjoying it. I’ve always been proud of my fitness and trying to keep as fresh as I can. At the end of the day, I’m very fortunate.

“Not many players get the opportunity at 36 to come and play amongst this amount of quality. When you look around the dressing room, there’s so much of it, and it’s an honour to come in and be able to play amongst that.”

Brendan Rodgers convinced Sterling will stay

0

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that winger, Raheem Sterling, will ignore interest from Real Madrid, and sign a new lucrative deal at Anfield.

The Englishman has had a superb start to the 2014/2015 campaign, becoming one of the Reds’ star players, and his performances have caught the eye of Spanish giants, Madrid, who are keen to sign him next Summer.

The 19-year-old, who burst onto the scene during Rodgers’ first season at the club, has developed into a regular starter for Liverpool and one of their key assets, and that is why the manager and the board want to offer him a new deal, with a whopping pay-rise.

However, his stand-out displays have caught the eye of Madrid, who are now ready to make a formal move for him in the Summer, but Rodgers is convinced that the teenager will remain in England.

“There are ongoing talks between the owners and myself regarding contracts for a number of players,” Rodgers told the ECHO.

“With Raheem we are relaxed where we’re at with him.

“The club are dealing with that and I’m sure we’ll get the solution.

“He is very happy here – that’s the key thing. In time I’m sure that will be sorted.”

Sterling’s current contract runs until 2017, but it’s believed Liverpool want to extend that, and also give him a substantial pay-rise on his current £30k-a-week salary.

‘Balotelli isn’t world class’, admits Rodgers

0

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that striker Mario Balotelli, cannot be classed as a world-class player, but he believes he could become that at Anfield.

The Reds spent £16million on bringing the Italian back to the Premier League from AC Milan, and despite only scoring once since his arrival, Rodgers has faith in the 23-year-old and believes he can grow into a world-class player on Merseyside.

Balotelli was signed as a replacement for Luis Suarez, who left the club to join FC Barcelona in the Summer, and despite Rodgers keen on signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, the manager has faith that the ex-Manchester City guy can become world-class with time.

When questioned about Balotelli being the right guy to replace Suarez, Rodgers responded with: “We shall see.

“There is no comparison between the two as players. Luis was brilliant for me in his time here and developed to become a player who consistently delivered in terms of scoring and creating.

“Mario is different. He’s got a lot of experience for 24, he has come here as an established international.”

“Suarez elevated himself, that was clear.

“He wasn’t world class when he came in but when he left to go to Barcelona he had put himself in that bracket.

“He did that because of his consistency in scoring goals and keeping his performance level high. World class is about being at the highest level consistently, being at that level in your game consistently. That’s what takes you there.

“I think Mario is potentially world class. You can’t compare Suarez and him, but Mario is coming in as an international striker and he’s a talent, no doubt.”

Liverpool already working on Benzema deal

0

Liverpool are reportedly already working on a potential deal to bring Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, to Anfield, in the January transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers is still keen on adding more firepower to his attack, despite signing Mario Balotelli from AC Milan in the Summer for just £16million, and it appears Benzema is his number-one target in mind.

The Madrid forward, who recently signing a contract extension at the Bernabeu, has been linked with an exit from Spain for years now, with several Premier League clubs showing interest in him, but it’s believed that it could be Liverpool who finally sign him.

According to reports in Benzema’s homeland of France, the striker is unhappy in Spain and is looking for a move abroad in order to face a new challenge in his career, and Liverpool are preparing an offer which they can then present to Madrid.

Liverpool aren’t the only side interested in the Frenchman however, as Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation.

Benitez in trouble, star players leaving, and the return of Mancini

0

Napoli’s season has started poorly. They simply can’t replicate the form they showed last term when they finished third in Serie A.

Four points from their opening four games means boss Rafa Benitez is under increasing pressure to turn things around quickly. Rumours are abound that former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will soon replace him.

The Napoli faithful are already uneasy after a summer of low key transfer activity, and to upset the apple cart further, the Italians were dumped out of the Champions League in the qualifying stages by the Spaniards from Athletic Bilbao.

With the club already in a precarious financial position, the early European exit has compounded their financial situation, and it looks likely they are going to be forced to sell their two most valuable assets.

Rumour is already rife regarding the possible sale of Gonzalo Higuain, but now it seems Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik may also be on his way out of the door. The two are valued at £65million between them.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd were all rumoured to have had links with the coveted international during the summer, and they could all be further tempted if the instability at Napoli continues.

With a potential manager change, top players leaving, and little or no money right now, it could be a difficult period for the Italian giants.

Fellaini was never told to move on from United

0

Manchester United flop Marouane Fellaini has rubbished reports that Louis Van Gaal attempted to force him out of the club.

The Belgian rock was said to be one of many names that were facing the axe from new boss Van Gaal during the summer window, but it appears that the player missed the final cut.

‘I talked to Van Gaal and he has never said that I had to leave,’ he told Sport Wereld.

‘He said I had a lot of competition, but that I will get the chance to prove myself.

‘I have known difficult moments like last season, but you become a stronger player afterwards. I have confidence in myself and in my game again.

‘I played a good World Cup and also during the preparation, I was good. It is unfortunate that this injury has thrown spanner in the works, but at the end of the month I will be back.’
