Sagna: Why I quit Arsenal for Manchester City

0

New Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna has revealed his reasons for joining the club from Arsenal this summer.

“Players are here to work and to win trophies,” Sagna said.”I was watching them (City) celebrating last season and I wanted to celebrate at the same time and win trophies, and the best way to do that is to work, to wake up every day and give the maximum effort”.

The Frenchman joined Kolo Toure, Gael Glichy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Samir Nasri, who all made the switch from the Emirates Stadium to the Etihad Stadium in recent years.

Sagna is in line to make his competitive debut for City in Sunday’s Community Shield, ironically against his former club. Sagna, though, insists it is “just another game”.

Napoli pull out of Fellaini deal

0

The proposed transfer of Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini to Napoli appears to have fallen through.

The Italian club are refusing to pay a £4M loan fee for the Belgian, 26.

They may now turn their attentions to Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva instead.

Fellaini only joined United last summer from Everton, but had a disappointing first season at Old Trafford.

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez said “He is a great player, but he is at another team. It does not depend on us, it depends on them”.

Benitez is a known admirer of Lucas, having worked with him at Anfield.

PSG trying to sell Cavani to fund Di Maria move

0

Ligue 1 champions Paris-Saint-Germain are looking to offload striker Edison Cavani to fund their attempts to secure Di Maria.

It is understood that Real Madrid are putting pressure on PSG to sign their star winger, in order to allow them to bid for Monaco forward Radamel Falcao.

Talks between the two clubs have continously hit problems, but now it appears that Real Madrid mean buisness and they want Falcao as soon as possible.

This means that PSG have decided to continue to offer unhappy striker Cavani to either Manchester United or Chelsea, so that they can sign wanted man, Di Maria.

However, Cavani is not wanted by any clubs at all, after a poor showing during the World Cup.

United boss Van Gaal is an admirer of the Urguayan forward, but is reluctant to buy him as he feels that no more strikers are needed at the club.

PSG will try and sell Cavani as soon as possible then make a huge offer for Di Maria, as the club have targeted the Argentine superstar for some-time.

United offer Di Maria £120,000 a week

0

Angel Di Maria has been in talks for a long time over a potential switch to French giants PSG but reports have emerged that the Red Devils are looking to hijack the deal.

Reports suggest United are to offer the Argentine £120,000 a week in order to tempt him away from the Parc des Princes, which is £50,000 more than he currently earns at Real Madrid, a price PSG are not willing to massively go over.

United have made their offer quite late but Di Maria is still yet to announce where he will be playing his football next season and van Gaal could still snatch up the Champions League winners’ signature.

It is claimed that Louis van Gaal is a long admirer of the winger and would like to have him in the United squad in order to bolster the attack and have sufficient ammunition if they are to challenge for the title next season.

Arsenal on red alert as Nastasic becomes available

0

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be set to make a move for Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic, after it’s claimed the Serbian international has been transfer listed by the club.

The Gunners are in the market for a central defender, as it looks increasingly likely that club captain Thomas Vermaelen will be leaving the Emirates for Manchester United.

Nastasic moved to the Etihad in 2012 and has made 34 appearances in that time, however his first team chances now look even more limited due to the imminent arrival of Eliaquim Mangala from Porto.

Juventus, Inter Milan and Galatasaray are also keen on the 21 year-old, who could be available on a loan deal with a view to signing permanently at the end of the season.

Wenger has chased Nastasic since he was 16, and could now make his move to secure his signature, although any move for the Serbian centre back is likely to hinge on the future of Vermaelen, as United are yet to place a bid for the 28 year-old.

Van Gaal hints at interest in Fiorentina ace

0

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has dropped his biggest hint yet that he is ready to bid for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado.

The Fiorentina player enjoyed an impressive season last campaign with the Italians, hitting 11 goals in 32 games, along with five assisits. He also starred in Colombia’s World Cup side which saw them finish in the quarter finals.

Van Gaal said:

‘‘I cannot talk about Cuadrado, because if I say something about him the price will rise.’’

This indicates that the Dutchman could be set to bid for the 26 year-old, who joined Fiorentina in 2012 from Serie A rivals Udinese.

Cuadrado woul fit into Van Gaal’s style of play, which is a 3-4-1-2 formation. With the ability to play as a right wing back, Cuadrado would be seen as the perfect wide player to compliment United’s other signing Luke Shaw in this system, should it be applied at Old Trafford.

However, Fiorentina are not keen on selling one of their star players, and insist it would only take a huge bid to make them consider.

Fiorentina’s sporting director Daniele Prade told Corriere dello Sport: ‘We’ll see the best situation, if there was an offer of €50m he would be hard to give up, but at the moment there has been no official request.’

Bayern move was Reina’s decision

0

The Spaniard spent last campaign on loan with Italian side Napoli and it was believed that the Liverpool keeper would sign for them on a permanent deal.

However Reina is now set to join Bayern for £2.5m after he agreed terms with the Bundesliga champions and Rummenigge insists that the World Cup winner was keen to push the deal through.

He told the club’s official website: “The player is scheduled to come to Munich for a medical in the next few days and sign his contract.

“Pepe Reina really wanted to join Bayern Munich. He was prepared to undertake this adventure, although he knows he has Manuel Neuer ahead of him, a first-choice keeper who will, provided nothing untoward happens, remain number one.

“Our goal was to be prepared for every eventuality in this particular position. We’ve now settled the situation regarding goalkeepers.

“We’ll go into next season with these three.”

Southampton see £9.5m Rojo bid rejected

0

Reports in Portugal suggest that Southampton had dent representatives over to Lisbon to discuss the Argentine’s future.

Rojo has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League following his impressive performances for his country at this year’s World Cup.

This has led Southampton to try and beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to the defender’s signature by making a £9.5m bid.

Rojo would be a perfect signing for Southampton as the 24 year-old can play in either the left-back or centre-back positions, offering a good replacement for the departed Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw.

However Sporting Lisbon turned down the bid due to issues not only with the fee but the way in which the payment would be made to the Portuguese club.

Rojo himself spoke about the move, saying: “Everyone has a price.

“If a good deal arrives, then I’m sure I will sit down with the club and evaluate things.”

Liverpool complete Javier Manquillo loan move

0

The Reds have completed the loan signing of Spanish youth international Javier Manquillo from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

An athletic right-back, the 20-year-old’s career began at academy level with Real Madrid before a switch to Atletico in 2007, while Manquillo has represented his country at various youth levels.

The Madrid-born defender is the seventh new recruit by Brendan Rodgers this summer, following Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi in joining the Reds.

Immediately after sealing the formalities of his loan transfer, Manquillo told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m very happy to have signed for a club like Liverpool. I think it’s one of the biggest in Europe. Any footballer would want to come and play here.

“When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you, I think like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don’t think of anything else than going straight there.

“It’s a team that nowadays, as I said before, any player would want to be a part of.”

Journalist Mario Giunta revealed on Italian TV that Vidal, who starred for Chile in this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, is seeking a new challenge in the Premier League.

An instagram post yesterday appeared to suggest he wanted to stay at Juventus, but the Italian media have since confirmed the account was fake.

Borini set to decide his future within 48 hours

0

Fabio Borini is set to make a decision on his future within the next 48 hours, with Liverpool and Sunderland awaiting the outcome.

Borini, currently contracted to Liverpool but spent last season on loan with the north-east club, is the subject of a £14M bid from the Black Cats.

He is recovering from a shoulder injury picked up on Liverpool’s pre season tour of the United States.

He is said to be keen to play in the Champions League this season, as well as wanting to fight for his spot at Anfield.

It has been a frustrating summer for Sunderland, a lack of significant transfer activity on the striker front, though they have brought in Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt.

Jack Rodwell has also signed from Manchester City for £7M on a five year deal.

Arsenal seek bargain World Cup star Khedira

0

Arsene Wenger could be about to land key target Sami Khedira after Real Madrid have told the midfielder he’s no longer required.

With the Spanish Giants having captured Toni Kroos already this summer manager Carlo Ancelotti is spoilt for choice in his midfield area which already consists of Luka Modric & Xabi Alonso and the Italian has grown tired of Khedira’s attitude over the last 12 months.

The asking price of 24 million could well be reduced in a bid to move him on as soon as possible with only 12 months left on his contract, Arsene Wenger is ready to strike as he bids to add quality to his Arsenal side in time for the new Premier League season.

There have also been interest from London rivals Chelsea about the midfielder but Arsenal seem favourites to land Khedira having already had a fee agreed between the two clubs only for wage demands seeming to stall the move.

The 27 year old is said to be keen to link up with his German team mates Podolski, Metersacker & Ozil as the Gunners aim to finish higher than the 4th they achieved last season having lead the premier league for the early part of the campaign.

Atletico offered Chelsea Miranda in exchange for Schurrle

0

Chelsea were offered the opportunity to sign Atletico defender Miranda in a shock exchange deal for World Cup winner Andre Schurrle.

Jose Mourinho has already brought in three of Diego Simeone’s men to Stamford Bridge this season (Diego Costa, Felipe Luis and Thibault Courtois), and hoped that a £20m bid for the centre back would add to his collection.

But Chelsea were told that they would have to part company with Chelsea’s World Cup winning forward, Andre Schurrle, in order to bring the 29 year old to West London.

Atletico Madrid are still eager to sign the German for £25m, as Jose Mourinho switches his attention to Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Liverpool ready to meet £28m asking price for Mauro Icardi

0

But Inter Milan have told Liverpool to stump up a whopping £28m for the striker if they are to acquire his services for the upcoming season.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Brendan Rodgers has a void to fill in his squad, and despite bringing in Southampton’s Rickie Lambert at the beginning of the transfer window, Rodgers still feels that the services of Icardi would complete his new-look Liverpool side.

The youngster had already received interest from the Premier League earlier this summer, with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea keeping their eyes locked on the forward.

Reports suggest that the Reds were planning at £16m bid for Icardi, but they will have to meet Inter’s asking price if they are to land the 21 year old.

Icardi caught the attention of Inter after an impressive 2012/13 campaign at Sampdoria where he netted 11 times in 33 games.

Following the failed attempt to sign Loic Remy from Premier League new boys QPR, Liverpool are looking to snap up a deal quickly for a new striker in time for the beginning of the 2014/15 season which kicks off in 10 days time.
