Chelsea sold Eden hazard for a record-breaking transfer fee
On June 4, Chelsea of the Premier League declared that it had completed a transfer agreement with Lille for Hazard. In addition to passing the necessary medical exams, he agreed to the club’s own rules. Reports state that the transfer fee would come to £32 million. Chelsea’s most costly transfer sale occurred in 2019 when Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid for an incredible €115 million.
Hazard made more than 190 appearances and scored 50 goals for Lille before joining Chelsea of England in June 2012. He earned the PFA Young Player of the Year award in his second season after winning the UEFA Europa League in his first. Hazard helped Chelsea win the Football League Cup and Premier League in the 2014–15 season, earning him the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards.
He earned his second English league title two years later as Chelsea won the 2016–17 Premier League. In 2018, he joined the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 team and won the FA Cup. He won the Europa League again in June 2019 with Chelsea. Hazard established himself as one of the world’s best players while he was at Chelsea. For one of the biggest transfer prices ever, up to €150 million, he joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. However, because of persistent injury problems and declining play, he saw very little action before departing the team in 2023.
Kai Havertz is the second-highest expensive sale in history
The fact that Kai Havertz scored the game-winning goal for the Blues in the 2021 Champions League final will make him a permanent fixture at Stamford Bridge. The adaptable German offensive midfielder, however, struggled to continuously live up to expectations at Chelsea after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for £71 million.
Havertz was transferred to Arsenal in 2023 for £65 million after making 139 appearances over three seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he scored 32 goals and made 12 assists.
He played a false nine at the Emirates and scored 12 goals in his debut season with the Gunners, sparking Arsenal’s drive to a second-place finish. It was his highest league goals return since coming to England.
