The Champions League is an incredibly prestigious competition. Here we will look at the best players never to win the Champions League.

It’s very difficult to win, and if you do manage it in your career, you’re seen in a group with some of the best players to have graced the competition.

However, this isn’t always the case. There are a handful of world-class players out there who never won a medal, or are still yet to. And here, Sillyseason are taking a look at Top 10 players never to win the Champions League.

Still plenty of time for him of course to pick up a medal, who knows, maybe this season will be the one. He’s a top striker who was runner up in 2013 with Borussia Dortmund before moving to rivals Bayern Munich a year later, but he’s yet to reach the final since.

9) Giorgio Chiellini – Juventus

Chiellini’s coming towards the end of his career and reaching the final in 2015 was a huge chance for him to finally pick up a medal, but he lost 3-1 to Barcelona and Juventus may not make the final again for some time now.

Out of all the players on this list, Matthaus possibly came the closest to winning a medal, but didn’t. He was 2 minutes away from lifting the trophy in 1999, but Manchester United scored 2 incredible last minute goals to snatch it away from him. He never came close again.

5) Pavel Nedved – Juventus

He was one of the classiest players to play in Europe during the 1990’s, but his ball control, graceful passing and cracker of a shot could never win him the Champions League. He spent 8 years in Turin but never picked up a medal.

4) Patrick Vieira – Arsenal

Again, a top player who had the curse of playing for Arsenal in the end. He too reached the final in 2006 but lost to Barcelona. Other than that, he never really came close to lifting the trophy. Dennis Bergkamp doesn’t feature on this list, but he could probably be featured too.

The Argentine never had much of a chance in the Champions League, but did play 2 seasons in the European cup with Napoli. Unfortunately for the legend, they got knocked out in the first and second round and he never came close.

Of course, we mean the Brazilian Ronaldo, not today’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who has actually won it 3 times. He was one of the greatest strikers ever to play football and was branded a ‘phenomenon’. However, despite spells with huge European clubs such as Real Madrid, Inter/AC Milan, Barcelona, and more, he could never lift the Champions League.
