1. Albert Stubbins
One of the perfect examples of what we call a complete forward. Albert Stubbins was one of the deadliest forwards in English football before world war ll. He was a player who was capable of scoring goals, creating goals and bringing his teammates together into the game. He scored 188 goals in 231 unofficial war time fixtures. By the time the world war ll came to an end, Albert Stubbins was one of the highly regarded forwards in the country and was set for a British record move to Liverpool in 1946.
In his first season at Anfield, he scored an outstanding 24 goals and won the League title wich also appeared to be his last when they lost the FA Cup in 1950 leaving Liverpool with 83 goals in 178 matches for the Reds. It’s surprising that the English man never won a full international cap whilst playing for Liverpool.
