Who won US Masters 2026?

Rory McIlroy successfully defended his title at the 2026 US Masters, winning back-to-back green jackets and joining the elite company of Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to do so.

In a dramatic final round at Augusta National, McIlroy carded a one-under-par 71 to finish at 12-under 276 for the tournament.

This secured him a one-shot victory over World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who finished alone in second place at 11-under after a bogey-free weekend that included a final-round 68.

A tightly contested leaderboard saw Justin Rose (70), Cameron Young (73), Russell Henley (68), and Tyrrell Hatton (66) all finish tied for third place at 10-under par.

At one point during the final round, McIlroy trailed by two shots, but he recovered with a critical run of birdies around Amen Corner.

The win was his sixth major championship, tying him with Sir Nick Faldo for the most by a European golfer.

Can Masters winners play for life?

Yes! The Masters offers one of the most prestigious perks in golf: a lifetime invitation to past champions. However, some key details apply:

Competitive Play: While winners can technically play forever, many older champions (like Tom Watson and Bernhard Langer) eventually stop competing due to age or performance.

Honorary Starters: Legends like Jack NicklausGary Player, and the late Arnold Palmer have hit ceremonial opening tee shots even after retiring.

Recent Changes: The Masters has encouraged older winners to step aside if they’re no longer competitive, but there’s no strict cutoff.

Past champions like Fred Couples (63 years old in 2023) and Larry Mize (retired in 2023 at 64) have played well into their later years.
