The 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix was moved to Malaysia because of the ongoing war in the Middle East.
The original race, scheduled for April at the Bahrain International Circuit, was cancelled after Iranian attacks hit targets in Bahrain, including fuel facilities near the circuit, making it unsafe to stage the event.
Rather than lose the race entirely, Formula 1 and the FIA agreed to relocate it to the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Sepang was chosen for its logistical convenience, as it sits between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, creating a triple-header with minimal travel for teams.
The event retains the “Bahrain Grand Prix” name through an agreement between F1, the FIA, and the Bahraini and Malaysian governments.
