Manchester City set to miss out on Frenkie de Jong in January
Manchester City have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Dutch starlet Frenkie de Jong as Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has made it very clear that the club is not going to sell their star players midway through the season. Ajax have made it through to the last 16 of the Champions League and the Dutch giants want to hold on to their key players at all costs.
van der Sar said, ” We’re not going to sell a player halfway through the season. No way. He further added, ” “If you have financial difficulties you might look at it, but for us no.”
“We’ve qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League. Of course, you want to go as long as possible in the tournament. “We want to be champions this year. We have to keep improving and keep the pressure on PSV.
“We’ve had a good season until this moment, but it says a lot that they are still ahead of us, so that says a lot about PSV.
“We want to win the Cup, also. You want to win as many prizes as possible.”
With Ajax not willing to sell de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, a target for Man United, in the winter, it will be interesting to see whether the Manchester giants set their sights on other options to bolster their squads.
