Organizing tournaments have long been a part of the gaming community but it hit its most competitive edge in the 2010s. Previously, it was mostly between amateurs but now players choose to game professionally with sponsors backing them.

10. Moon

Real Name: Jang, Jae Ho (장재호)

Games: StarCraft II and Warcraft III

Moon is regarded as the best Night Elf in Warcraft III other than one of the best in StarCraft II as well. He has won 5 World Championships and 3 Korean Warcraft III Championships. He consistently won against the best and was awarded a $500,000 contract by the Korean eSports team, WeMade FOX. That number marked his success in the early part of the last decade.

Real Name: Lim Yo-hwan (임요환)

Lim Yo-hwan is mostly known as “The Emperor” or “Terran Emperor” due his outstanding skills in Starcraft II. He recorded 548 wins in his professional gaming career but had to retire due to health concerns.

7. Olofmeister

Real Name: Olof Kajbjer
Teams: FaZe Clan, Five Crowns, Fnatic, LGB eSports

Games: Assetto Corsa, Counter-Strike, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

One outstanding player to come out of Sweden amongst so many but arguably the best. He was widely regarded as the best CS:GO player at one point, having played for several teams like Faze Clan. He holds two championship titles from CSGO Majors, ESL One Katowice 2015 and ESL One Cologne 2015.

Back in the day, Fatal1ty was one of the most feared players in Quake and other FPS games. His professional accomplishments include 12 World Championship titles, which includes 4 Player of the Year Awards with the Cyberatlete Professional League. He no longer competes professionally but has his own company which licenses brands. Wendel is one of the oldest names in the eSports community, winning his first Quake 3 tournament for $500.

Alesund’s career began in 2007 with Counter Strike where he quickly became a phenomenon. His aim is not the best but his strategic understanding has earned him big titles consistently.

Games: Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Lindberg is another Swedish gem in the eSports community whose helped Fnatic become the most dominant team in Counter Strike. Outside of Asia, f0rest was the most celebrated eSports figure out there. His performances in CS:GO was one of the major factors behind NiP’s absurd 87-0 streak of map wins on LAN – the greatest win streak in eSports history.

Flash has a 70% win rate against the world’s best in StarCraft – that is ridiculous even by any professional standards. Liquipedia states the Young Ho holds the record for highest rating of all time, shares the record for longest tenure as the #1 ranked player in the world and is tied for most Starleague wins in a single year.

Lee “Faker” Sang Hyeok is the Michael Jordan of the eSports community. He is outright the best player to have ever played League of Legends despite it being a team-dominant game. SK Telecom scouted him in 2013 and in his first competitive tournament led the team to a third-place finish. He then won the title altogether next summer and then won the World Championship in Staples Centre Los Angeles.

Faker is the one of two players to win three League of Legends world titles and has won all international tournaments including IEM, All-Stars, the Mid-Season Invitational and the World Championship. He has won the most prize money than any other player in the game grossing over $1 million. Faker’s skills are the reason why fans are drawn to the game so much as he has played a very key role in spreading its popularity across the planet.
