Newly promoted from Serie B, the Giallorossi have seriously taken their new campaign.
Lecce’s search for an experienced striker has reportedly taken them to knock on the door to get some first-class names.
- Jackson Martinez
Lecce failed to bring in Burak Yilmaz, Kostas Mitroglou or Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and according to Sky Sport Italia‘s Gianluca Di Marzio, they are now looking at former AC Milan target Jackson Martinez.
Martinez was once considered hot property in Europe after his haul of 94 goals in three seasons with Porto.
However, after a surprising U-turn on an AC Milan switch, he moved to Atletico Madrid in 2015 for €35 million, which lasted just six months and he went on to play just 16 times for Guangzhou Evergrande in three years, despite costing the Chinese club €42 million.
The 32-year-old recovered some of his goalscoring form back in Portugal with Portimonense last season, netting nine times in 27 appearances.
- Guido Carrillo
Carrillo, meanwhile, is surplus to requirements at Southampton and spent the previous campaign at La Liga side Leganes. Per Sky‘s report, Lecce have also entered the hunt to sign the Argentine hitman.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl does not appear to have Carrillo in his plans. The Saints signed Danny Ings on a permanent deal in the summer, as well as bringing in Che Adams. Carrillo, who previously played for Monaco and holds an Italian passport. is down the pecking order and could move to Italy or Spain.
- Wilfred Bony
Even former Manchester City ace, Wilfred Bony has been linked with the Giallorossi this summer’s transfer window. Earlier, the Ivory Coast international confirmed his agent is in talks with some clubs in Italy and Turkey. The 30-year-old centre-forward is currently training with League Two side Newport County in Wales after his Swansea City contract expired.
“I need to train with a team to be fit before I find a new team,” Bony told BBC Sport Wales.
“My agent is talking with some clubs in Italy and Turkey also. We are waiting for the best offer and then after discussing it, we will try to go there and sign. I hope to find a club as soon as possible.
